The Iomega Prestige 1 TB External Hard Drive makes a great first impression in this review because as promised, it is literally plug and play. Both design and technical aspects of the external HD are great for regular use.

Build & design

The Iomega Prestige comes in a stylish, sturdy aluminum construction which looks good and professional. The device is located on an stable included stand and the case is very sleek. The metal shell and its power switch on the back are just what you need for an external enclosure.

Unlike other external hard drives, the Prestige has a power switch (ON/OFF) and allows you to turn the HD off without removing the power adapter.

Since the metal enclosure has no fan, there is no fan noise. The housing remains cool to touch in use. The noise from the drive itself should be imperceptible. In case it isn’t, there might be something wrong and you should return the unit immediately.

Usage

First of all, this external HD comes without preinstalled backup software which is good because this kind of software usually tends to be useless.

After plugging it in your computer, the hard drive is recognized immediately and ready for copying files. The drive comes formatted in NTFS. For use with an Apple Macintosh, it has to be reformatted first.

The unit comes with a Seagate Serial ATA drive with a hard drive speed of 7200 rpm, which is great. The overall performance is very satisfying and comparable to similar external HDs.

All in all, it’s worth the money and I can recommend the Iomega Prestige 1 TB External Hard Drive for regular use at home and work. It has a nice design and is working just as expected. Great deal!
